The Mercedes Benz 230SL began production in 1963 and was the first in a new line of iconic sports coupes and roadsters from Mercedes. The W113, based on a modified W111 platform, was a revolutionary design that implemented cutting edge technological advancements for the time. Beyond its M127 inline-six which had been increased to 2.3L and featured Bosch multi-port fuel injection in conjunction with a redesigned cylinder head, camshaft, and fuel pump, the 230SL was also the first sports car with a “safety body” and had a rigid passenger cell surrounded by impact absorbing crumple zones. But the 230SL toughted more than just passenger safety and good looks; it was quite the performer as well. On the Annemasse Vétraz-Monthoux race track, chief engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut set a best lap time on par with Grand Prix driver Mike Parkes and his V12 Ferrari 250 GT. Between passenger safety and remarkable performance, the 230SL was an instant success and proved to be a classic design that was loved for decades to come.

This 1967 Mercedes Benz 230SL is finished in a beautiful grey over red leather. The seats and convertible top were recently redone and appear brand new. The M127 engine has driven 91,000 miles over the course of its life and runs beautifully. It sends power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission and cruises down any road with the speed and comfort one would expect of a Mercedes Benz sports roadster.
